The footbridge at the back of Sanquhar Loch in the town was broken on Sunday, July 9.

It is believed that the bridge was being used by a horse and rider when a number of planks fell in. Nobody was hurt in the accident.

The bridge has been cordoned off for the time being, with two contractors currently working on the scene. It is expected to be fixed by tomorrow.

A Moray Council spokesperson said: "Due to extensive damage, the footbridge at Sanquhar Loch, Forres, will be closed until at least Wednesday, July 12, to allow our contractor to make repairs.

"For you own safety, please avoid the area while the bridge is being repaired. Apologies for the inconvenience."

The replacement job is due to be an extensive and expensive one due to contractors needing to use a small digger to lift the bridge.

A Moray Council spokesperson confirmed the cost will be £2093.86.

This is not the first time the Sanquhar Loch footbridge has been damaged.

A tree fell onto the bridge during high winds in February 2020, badly damaging the handrails and requiring the bridge to be repaired.
