A TREE has fallen onto a popular footbridge in Forres.

Moray Council engineers are removing affected timber from the bridge at Sanquhar Pond which was damaged during Storm Ciara's high winds at the weekend.

A spokesman said: "Teams were out clearing the fallen timber from the site today (Monday, February 10), but the bridge will remain closed until it has been inspected for safe use. Signs have been erected to advise walkers not to use the crossing until the council’s bridge engineers have inspected the site."

Lands Parks and countryside officer, Ken Kennedy, had earlier informed Sanquhar Working Group what had happened.

He said: "We are in the process of removing the timber from the bridge. The handrails are badly damaged.

"The engineers will send me a report and if possible the estimated cost of any repairs."
