A FORRES shooter has said she is "very grateful" after being awarded significant funding by the Berry Burn Community Fund.

Teenager Lucy Evans, who is currently competing at the Hungarian Open in Budapest, has been given £2500 to help fund her training, travel, membership fees and equipment for national and international pistol shooting competitions.

She said: "I am very grateful to have received the award. It will be extremely beneficial to my progression.

"Being from a fund close to home it really means a lot. The money from the fund will be spent on upcoming travel and competition fees, along with upgrading some equipment."

Lucy has had a busy year, competing across the UK. After her current spell in Hungary, she is aiming to compete in Denmark in February and in China next summer at the World University Games.

Berry Burn Community Fund administrator Alison Clark said: "We are pleased to support dedicated young athletes within the fund area to participate at the top end of their sport. BBCF has supported such cases in the past.

"Lucy excels in her chosen sport, which has brought her national success.

"She incurs great expense travelling to competitions and national training camps, plus, because of the nature of her event, a lot of personal expense is incurred. For example on equipment, membership fees, insurance and accommodation.

"Lucy is highly motivated and totally committed to her sport and is a wonderful inspiration for younger generations in the area.

"Lucy is becoming a local ‘shooting star’ and we are pleased to support her."

The owners of the Berry Burn wind farm, Statkraft UK, previously agreed to transfer a sum of roughly £186,000 a year for 25 years to be used for the benefit of Forres, Elgin and the surrounding area.
