The teenager will be well-known to fellow Cans forward Ben Barron, who is also 17 and joined Forres from Inverness in the summer.

Cairns, whose brother Owen plays for Elgin City, made his Caley Thistle debut in the League Cup in a 4-0 win over Albion Rovers, playing for 20 minutes.

Forres host Brechin City at Mosset Park on Saturday.
