Morayshire Indoor Bowling: Burghead oust Alves in thrilling finale in Ed Beattie Memorial Charity Cup





Alves entertained Burghead in the first round of the Ed Beattie Memorial Charity Cup.

Rondy Mackenzie and Cameron Leggat won 18-12 and 13-10 to give the Broch a nine-shot advantage at half-time.

Colin Taylor won 18-6 to give the hosts a three-shot advantage and Mike Anderson made it a seven-shot margin with two ends to play.

Ryan Gordon scored a count on the penultimate end to make it a level match. Gordon played a superb last end to seal victory for the coastal club.

Division 1 champions Lossie BC went on the road to second division Birnie and took an eight-shot advantage into the second session with Tam Stewart winning 14-7.

Charles Stewart won 15-5 for the village team as an upset looked on the cards only for Jutta Hewett to count three shots on her last end as the champions survived a scare.

Forres Victoria built up an unassailable first session lead over Fogwatt with Paul Coutts in good form. Despite a spirited second half showing from the visitors, the home club head into the second round.

Hopeman A and Hopeman B went head-to-head for the first time with the A team holding all the trump cards in the first session to lead by 18 shots.

Allan Grant offered some hope to the B team winning 14-8 but Zander Main put on a powerful display to ensure the A team claim the bragging rights with a place in the next round.

Moray Bowling Club continued their good early season form with an emphatic victory over Duffus.

The father-and-son combination of George junior and Aaron Robb dominated from the start to give the hosts a commanding lead.

Steve McKidd and George Grant ensured a place in the second round for the Elgin club.

Second division pacesetters Lhanbryde were at home against Forres Royal British Legion where all four matches were keenly contested.

Andrew Furr and Robert Wildgoose gave the hosts a 10-shot advantage after the first session. Experienced skips Neil Roger and Neil Ogilvie held off a valiant effort from the visitors to see the home club through to the next round.

Bishopmill hosted holders Fochabers, there were only 3 shots separating the teams after the first session with one win apiece. Richard Penny gave the holders a healthy advantage winning 17-3. Home skip Craig Fletcher took control of his match from the onset and went onto dominate his match only dropping one end as the Elgin club knocked out the holders to progress into the second round.
