Hosting Nairn Ladies' under-14s, Forres started brightly on a warm night at Logie Park for their first-ever midweek fixture.

Playing an older, more experienced team, Forres looked lively and a driving run inside the first five minutes from Cheryl Morrison forced the first corner of the game and set the tone for the remainder of the half.

Jessica Porter and Isla Franklin looked in control throughout in midfield and Eva Ingram, Alex McCairn and Cheryl Morrison were solid in defence, giving Nairn very little encouragement in front of goal.

A series of corners from Forres kept the pressure on the Nairn goal and there were a number of chances in the opening 20 minutes that Forres couldn’t quite convert.

A great one-two between Isla Franklin and Sophie MacKenzie saw the later race through on goal but the Nairn keeper deflected the shot away from goal.

Macey Gammie, Amy Wolf and Keira Simpson were giving the Nairn back line plenty to think about but the final pass or shot from the Forres girls never quite found its target.

It was goal-less at the break and the second half continued in the same vein, Forres pushing for a goal and making all the running.

Porter and Amy Sutherland were now linking to good effect with Sutherland causing problems down the left.

Porter finally got the opening goal, picking the ball up in midfield and driving forward to hit a shot low to the goalkeeper's right. A good initial save bounced back to the Forres player who reacted first and tucked the ball into the net.

The second goal followed quickly, some good possession from Forres saw Gammie latch onto a pass beyond the Nairn defence and with the goalkeeper advancing she slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.

Georgia Forsyth had the ball in the net for a third after a tidy finish from 12 yards out but was called offside.

Forres could and should have added to the tally and Roxy Homer, Sutherland and Gammie all had half chances that, on another day, might have seen Forres score more.

Goalkeeper Jessica MacDonald kept a well-deserved clean sheet and improved decision-making and good shot-stopping gave the team a great base from which to go on dominate the game.

The girls make a trip west this Saturday to play Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the league and are hoping they can make it a hat-trick of wins.

Forres Girls FC have weekly training sessions for players born between 2017-2008.
