FORRES Victoria Bowling Club's annual open triples competition was held over the weekend.

The event, which started on the Friday evening, was not just a good bowling occasion but a superb social one with 22 teams from across Moray and as far as Aviemore competing.

Some spectacular bowls was played and the weekend was fittingly concluded with a thrilling final on Sunday afternoon that went right to the very last bowl.

Having fought their way back to 15 shots all going into the last end, a strong Burghead team led by skip Cameron Leggat found themselves on a knife edge as he was faced with just a single option for a win with his last bowl.

A super effort went unrewarded and gave victory by a whisker to the Forres Victoria team of Carol and Robert McRitchie led by skip Charlie Watt.

President Charlie Watt thanked the Edinkillie Hall committee for allowing use of the hall as the usual venue at Forres Academy is unavailable due to RAAC problems.

He praised the generous support of main sponsor Andrew Smith Funeral Directors, along with C and P Garage, Wilmac Garage, Gordon and MacPhail, Diagio and Tesco.
