Storm Babet wipes out entire north football league schedule

The entire North Region junior football fixture programme has been cancelled tomorrow because of the stormy weather.

With the effects of Storm Babet affecting large parts of Moray, Banffshire and Aberdeenshire, the North Region Junior FA took the decision to call off all matches.

Fixtures scheduled included the Championship derby matches between Burghead Thistle and Forres Thistle, and the clash between Lossiemouth United and Dufftown.

A post on the North Region Facebook account said: "Having looked at the various weather warnings and forecasts across the Region for the rest of today and tomorrow and in the interest of safety to all including players, committees, travelling supporters and their families, referees etc, we have taken the decision to cancel all matches this weekend.

"Stay safe."

The gale-force conditions is also expected to have an effect on the Highland League football card for Saturday.
