PLANS for a new sports pitch in Elgin are gathering pace.

Dave Allen is heading a bid by Elgin Sports Community Trust to transform an area of Lesser Borough Briggs into an all-weather pitch.

Now, a formal transfer request for a long term lease of the Common Good land has been submitted to Moray Council. Should that be agreed, possibly as early as May, court approval will then be required before any lease can go ahead.

And if that is forthcoming, Mr Allen said the trust are poised and ready to roll into action.

The father-of-three said support has already been offered by commercial partners to build an astro pitch at the site.

To keep local people up-to-date, a public meeting and AGM is being held at Elgin Academy on January 31 at 7pm and everyone is welcome.

Once up and running, the facility will be available for the whole community to use. From that, the trust hopes to generate revenue to be reinvested to help other sports clubs around the local area.

You can join the trust for free and more information is available from its Facebook page.
