North region junior football and club rugby cancelled after death of Queen Elizabeth II

SPORTING events are being postponed and cancelled in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire yesterday. Her death was announced at 6.30pm.

Since, sporting events up and down the country have been put on the sidelines.

All junior football matches across the country have been postponed, so scheduled North Region Junior Cup matches have been postponed.

Forres Thistle were scheduled to be in action in the first round of the cup against Montrose Roselea.

All club rugby in Scotland has also been postponed across the weekend.

The Highland League are yet to announce any postponements, with a full card of nine matches scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Forres Mechanics are set to welcome Clachnacuddin to Mosset Park, with a 3pm kick-off.
