The Tayside outfit's 7-1 victory put them back on top of the Highland League, and they also have a game in hand.

In the only other two games to beat the weather, Forres Mechanics drew 1-1 with Inverurie Locos and the scoreline was the same at Station Park where Nairn County hosted Formartine United.

Deveronvale took a surprise lead at Brechin through a Horace Ormsby strike on six minutes.

Kieran Inglis levelled soon after and it stayed at 1-1 until the stroke of half time when the home side were awarded a penalty and top scorer Grady McGrath converted.

Brechin showed their class after the break as McGrath added two more for his hat-trick, Ewan Louden also netted two and Aaron Arnott scored his first goal for the club.

Vale manager Stewart said: "We went 1-0 up and we had a really good first half.

"They then scored two later in the first half, one being a free kick that I really don’t think was a free kick but we’ve got to defend it better. I had no complaints about the penalty and that put them 2-1 up.

"I was quite happy with what I had seen in the first half and I was asking for more of the same and to stay in the game for as long as we could.

"We lost a really sloppy third goal and they totally dominated the second half in terms of possession. We just couldn’t make it stick and didn't keep the ball well in the second half and that was a downfall.

"They are a really good side. They don’t change their style of play at all, there’s no panic and I was really quite impressed by them.

"I can see why they are top of the league and unbeaten, they are a very good side all-round."

Lloyd Robertson put Locos ahead after eight minutes at Forres, before teenager Ethan Cairns levelled shortly after the break.

At Nairn, Graeme Rodger's equaliser midway through the second half cancelled out Angus Dey's 35th minute Nairn strike.
