The Highland League season finished just two weeks ago but Forres Mechanics will begin their pre-season training camp this Saturday with Charlie Rowley set to put his troops through their paces at Grant Park with a three mile cross country run set to loosen them off as they get set for a two hour session.

The Can Cans boss made no bones about the fact it was going to be tough, “We won’t be trying to break them in. They have been advised to keep themselves in reasonable condition and we have only 11 days until we face our first pre season game which is against Caley Thistle on the 29 June so we have to hit the ground running.”

“It will be a big ask for a start but that is pre-season they are all aware of what it entails.

It will be at Grant Park for the foreseeable, it is an ideal venue as there are the braes and there is a good cross country run. It will be a three mile run for the first half an hour and then time to get the markers out.

“I am confident they come back in pretty good it is a case of getting a break without really stopping these days and I know a number of them were out running the week after the season ended.”

There were two main doubts points of note on the injury front during the lay off with Graeme Grant getting a third operation on his knee while Nathan Sharp was hoping to solve a niggling shoulder problem.

Rowley revealed that both players are set to participate this weekend, “I spoke to Grapies a few times over the break. When he started running again I was enquiring how he was getting on and he said nothing was bothering him but he needs to be careful as it is a different scenario from running around streets at steady pace to the twisting and turning or the 2 hours training non stop at a good pace which is what we will be doing. H is confident he will be fully fit for the start of the season.

“Nathan got a cortisone injection on his shoulder and it has eased off, he has not been feeling it has been a problem since. They said they may need to operate on it at some point but he may wait until it proves too much of a problem for him before that.”
