Racing weekend held in memory of club stalwart

Forres Cycling Club ran a very busy weekend of racing during the last few days in May.

Starting on Saturday afternoon was the Alan Bell memorial 10mile tt.

Alan was a member of the club all his adult life and took part in time trials, road races, Highland Games grass track and touring.

He helped at countless races and gave great encouragement to new and less talanted riders. In 1st place was Peter Ettles (Sandy Wallace Cycles21-52. The runnerup was Charles Fletcher(Caingorm cc) 22-21. The best Forres performance came from Dave Harter who got the 2nd vet prize in 22-55. Other Forres times Douglas Cowie 25-49, Neil Carpenter 25-53, George Grant 25-57, Peter Forsyth 26-43, Fergus Dickson 31-17, Craig Little 31-35 Angela Bell (daughter of Alan Bell) 32-43.

On Sunday morning it was a 25mile tt. The winner this time was Kyle Gordon (Sandy Wallace) 56-02, with Andy Cowie Moray Firth 2nd in 58-24. Dave Harter just failed to get onto the podium finishing in 4th place with 1-00-13. Neil Dawson of Forres riding for Sandy Wallace got a pb and 2nd handicap with 1-00-38. Other Forres CC times Mike Reaper 1-4-52.Scott Grant 1-8-49,Jake Carpenter 1-15-55,Craig Little 1-28-12.

The final event of the weekend was a 35mile handicap roadrace. The winner this time was Michael Henderson Moray Firth with Ross Mallen of the RAF 2ND and Brian Widdison of Moray Firth 3rd. The overall winner of the weekend and winner of the Tony Franchie trophy was Fraser Macbeath Moray Firth. The prizes were presented by Tom and Alan Logie of TD Logie (House Furnishers) who very kindly sponsered the weekend. Organiser Peter Robertson thanked everyone who helped make the weekend so successfull.

On Wednesday evening Ross-shire Roads CC held a 25MILE team timetrial on the tough Garve- Auchnasheen road. The result was a dead heat between two teams from Moray Firth cc.Kenny Riddle/Brian Widdison and John Grant/Michael Henderson in atime of 55-37. The only Forres cc team was George Grant and Peter Robertson. The combinded age of thi pairing is 139. They were delighted to finish in a time of 1-3-27.
