More than 300 competitors take part in Brodie Castle 10K as Moray Road Runner James Wilson takes win

MORE than 300 runners took part in the Brodie Castle 10K on Sunday, with Moray Road Runners' James Wilson taking victory.

Wilson came home in a time of 31 minutes 44 seconds, which was almost a minute clear of runner-up Shaun Cumming (32 mins 40 secs) of Highland Hill Runners.

Inverness Harriers' Gordon Lennox took home third place (32 mins 58 secs) ahead of Forres local Kyle Greig, who runs with Metro Aberdeen Running Club and was the first senior in a time of 33 minutes 39 seconds.

More than 20 Forres Harriers took part in the race. Bruce Evans was the first over the finish line in a time of 34 minutes 30 seconds, which was good for sixth overall.

There was success for Jackie Nicol in the Veteran 60 Female category as she came home in 45 minutes 4 seconds – more than five minutes clear of any other woman in the same age bracket and just seconds behind the fastest in the age category below.

The first woman home overall was Jenny Bannerman, of Inverness Harriers, in a time of 36 minutes 48 seconds, ahead of Metro Aberdeen's Debbie Greig (37 mins 50 secs) and Inverness Harriers' Lesley Hansen (38 mins 45 secs).

A total of 321 runners were given starters' orders at Brodie Castle on a fair, bright morning. In addition to the overall men's and women's categories, there were eight other age categories.

With Kyle Greig winning the men's senior race, the women's was won by Asiya Cunningham (43 mins 29 secs) of Inverness Harriers.

Veteran 40 female: Iona Robertson (44:08); Susan McNairney (44:38); Kellie Calder (45:04).

Veteran 50 male: Gareth Jenkins (34:39); Stephen Carmichael (37:44); Graham Stephen (38:20).

Veteran 50 female: Lorraine Coull (44:55); Julie Lefevre (45:13); Elspeth Jenkins (46:31).

Veteran 60 male: Robert Maclean (42:06); Simon Macdonald (42:25); Graham Whyte (43:54).

Veteran 60 female: Jackie Nicol (45:04); Jenny Garnham (50:06); Ros Wright (50:29).
