PICTURES: Kwik cricket festival hits a big six with 100 primary pupils from seven Forres area schools

Around 100 pupils from seven primary schools took part in the Forres Associated Schools Group kwik cricket competition.

The event was held at Forres’ Grant Park with the top four teams progressing to the Moray finals day on June 4.

A total of ten teams competed over a series of keenly-contested matches min an event organised by Moray Active Schools team.

“There was some fantastic competitive cricket played across the day and played in a really good spirit, with all pupils being a credit to their schools,” said Active Schools manager Paul Rogan.

Two Forres primaries, Applegrove 1 and Anderson’s 1 qualified outright alongside Kinloss 2, with a three-way tie for the fourth place and the final slot in the finals.

Dyke just pipped Pilmuir (Forres) and Alves on more runs scored and less wickets lost.

The Applegrove 1 team emerged as the overall winners, collecting the Forres ASG cricket trophy for the second year running.

They won all four of their group matches, scoring 290 runs and losing just four wickets.

In the final they met the other section winners Kinloss 2, who managed a total of 211 runs for 5 wickets.

Applegrove’s 253 runs for 4 wickets won the day.

Rogan added: “We would like to thank Neil Nicol, the Moray Cricket Association coach for delivering coaching sessions for many of the schools in the area in preparation of the event, along with PE specialists and school staff.”
