TWO Moray Road Runners produced a dogfight for North District 10k Championship silver at Nairn on Sunday.
Fraserburgh’s Max Abernethy won the Nairn 10k by a 22-second margin while the battle for second between James Wilson and Moray team-mate Ewan Davidson was an epic effort with both runners neck-and-neck over long stretches.
Wilson just edged it with a new personal best of 32.13, a strong burst taking him just four seconds clear of Davidson.
Another MRR athlete Colin Baird came in eighth in a time of 35.40.
The male 50-and-over category was won by Colin Green (Moray Road Runners) in 38.40.
A total of 27 MRR athletes took part in the race in a field of over 250 runners.
Inverness Harriers’ Catriona Fraser was clear winner in the ladies race in 36.47, finishing 13th overall.
Forres Harriers’ Stephen Sharpe was 15th, and fifth in the veteran 40 category, reaching the finish line in 36.51.
Three more Harriers also took part with Clare Nicholas sixth in the female 50 category (51.08) while Frances Russell (55.08) and Andy Wonnacott (55.07) produced strong finishes.
Keith runner Kevin Ewing was just behind in 37.01, earning 17th place overall.
Keith and District’s veteran athlete Ron Wild competed in the veteran 60 category for his club and finished in a time of 56.27.
Just behind in the same category was Elgin AAC’s Malcolm Christie in 57.04.
Karen Patterson represented Spey Runners in the veteran 60 category in a time of 1:01.19.
