CARISBROOKE have been crowned 2021’s Top Car Cup champions after a 1-0 victory over Nairn side Westerlea at Rosyvale on Friday evening.
In a hotly-contested cup final, a single first half goal was enough for the Forres side to take the win.
Carisbrooke had reached the final three days earlier when they defeated Mosset Tavern 3-0, while Westerlea were surprise 2-1 victors over Kinloss Sappers.
Despite their best efforts, Westerlea weren’t able to repeat their semi final feat on Friday night, with Carisbrooke living up to their favourites tag.
The Brooke almost got a dream start when Ally McIntosh scrambled a second minute effort a yard wide of the post.
But they didn’t have to wait long to take the lead – with Ricky Wardrop arriving at the back post to make it 1-0 after 15 minutes.
It was almost 2-0 just eight minutes later but John Ross’ header was really well tipped over the top by Westerlea keeper Kyle Mallinson.
Ross was in action at the other end before half-time as Westerlea looked for an equaliser. After a goalmouth scramble, he was forced to clear from underneath his own crossbar.
The second half didn’t bring many clear cut chances, with a header over the top from Westerlea's Danny Gresham and a long-range free kick from Craig Short which fizzed just wide the most notable efforts.
But that won’t have bothered the Brooke one bit as they saw the game out expertly to ensure the title remains in Forres.
This Friday, Carisbrooke host Caberfeidh while Mosset Tavern visit Elgin Albion. Kinloss Sappers host The Vikings on Thursday.
