FORRES Thistle were eliminated from the North Regional Cup on Saturday after a penalty-kick defeat to Longside after a 2-2 draw.
Goals from Craig Robertson and Neil Moir appeared to have done enough to secure the win for the Jags, but a last-minute goal sent the game to spot kicks, where Forres lost 5-3.
The game reached half-time goalless with a half chance for Toby Clark in the fifth minute the only real chance of note for the hosts.
Forres had a second chance four minutes after the break when Neil Owen’s shot was parried away but he couldn’t get to the rebound before the ball drifted out of play.
The Jags went ahead when Moir’s corner was nodded in from five yards by Craig Robertson in the 55th minute.
The lead, though, lasted just three minutes as Hamish Burr got free in the Forres area and slotted into the corner.
Moir scored what looked like it would be the winner when he opened up space for himself and fired a 25-yard shot that beat the Longside keeper for 2-1.
However, five minutes into added time, Longside substitute James Pryor went down the right and played the ball across the six yard box for Harry Copeman to score.
Neil Owen was the only player to miss a spot kick as Longside won 5-3.
Thistle return to league action next, with a trip to Glentanar on Saturday.
