FORRES Mechanics forward Paul Brindle is hoping the club can kick on after ending a three-month winless run against Keith on Saturday.

Brindle scored a goal in either half as Mechanics ran out 2-1 winners at Kynoch Park on Saturday – with his second a sensational 25-yard lob.

Looking forward to this Saturday's clash with high-flying Buckie Thistle at Mosset Park, he said: "We've been on a terrible run and we've been needing a result like against Keith.

"We played really well against Brechin and were unlucky not to get something from the game.

"Brechin are a top team and we competed with them all over the park and deserved something.

"We won't get carried away, but we go into the game against Buckie and will keep playing the way we have the last couple of games, with the same work rate, and see where it takes us."

Mechanics' travelling support got a glimpse of Brindle – a former Highland League top goal scorer – at his best on Saturday.

His first goal saw him cleverly take the ball around the keeper and calmly walk it home, before his second half strike – which was a pre-planned screamer.

He added: "With the way the wind was, I had it in my head before I even came out for the second half that the first time I got the ball I was going to turn and have a pop.

"I know what it's like when balls are coming in the wind, they're hard to judge, so I just knew I was going to do it.

"It came off, nine times of out 10 it probably doesn't but thankfully it did this time."
