The two contrasted each other nicely, as the golf course was fast and open meaning errors could quickly be fixed, while the woods had a lack of features apart from the intricate path system.

Taking part in the event in the dark, by head torch, provided great fun for the competitors.

The long course was 4.6km and was for experienced orienteers looking to run a longer distance, although its technicality was the same as the short course.

The Moravian club did not disappoint with Michael Bishenden taking second place, only a minute behind the leader. Kate McLuckie came a close second in the women.

Over the short course, Moravian had an extremely strong performance taking four out of the top five places.

Nikki Howard was the overall winner, closely followed by Rob Parkinson who claimed first place in the male category.

Morag McLuckie came third overall and Sophie Howard was close on her heels.

The novice event took place over a shorter course of 2 km and was designed to provide a safe space for people to come along and try night orienteering , as the route remained within the golf course.

Another Moravian Orienteer, Anna Howard won this course and her nearest competitor was 11 minutes behind her.
