North junior football: Wins for Islavale and Deveronside, heavy losses for Moray clubs

Islavale got off the mark for their north junior season with a thumping win at Cruden Bay on Saturday.

Player manager Iain Macrae led his team to a 4-0 victory in Buchan to clock up their first points of the campaign.

Goals by Saul Phimister, Brodie Christie, Stuart Thomson (pen) and Liam Wood took the Keith outfit to a comfortable success.

Deveronside also got off the mark in the Championship with a 2-1 success away to Glentanar.

Ryan Matheson notched his second goal of the season for 'Side and summer signing Jack Brown got the winner.

In the Premier League, Dufftown's tough start continued with a home game against one of the top Aberdeen sides, Culter.

The Toonsers made Culter work hard for a 2-0 win at Westburn Park.

Lossiemouth United tasted defeat for the first time since returning to the junior set-up.

They were beaten 5-1 at home to Longside with Harvey Kane getting United's solitary strike.

Burghead Thistle also lost heavily at home, defeated 4-0 by Sunnybank while Fraserburgh United ended New Elgin's winning run with a 4-1 success at Nicol-Togneri Park.

Rothie Rovers were also beaten for the first time this season, going down 1-0 at home to Newmachar United.

And another unbeaten record fell when Forres Thistle crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Buchanhaven Hearts in Peterhead.

Jags were behind after just two minutes when Peter Bruce drove into the box from the left and fired the ball into the far corner of the net.

The Moray visitors remained in touch until Bruce tapped in his second goal of the game with eight minutes left.

There is almost a full programme of midweek fixtures with five Premier League and seven Championship matches.

There's two Moray derby matches with New Elgin hosting Burghead Thistle and Islavale at home to Forres Thistle.
