A NEW Year's eve curry fuelled GB triathletes and Commonwealth Games hopefuls Cameron Main and Sophia Green to the fastest ever times for men and women at the Elgin Parkrun on January 1.
It was the first time in nearly two years that the elite athletes, both from Elgin and members of Moray Road Runners, had been able to visit family and friends over the festive period due to the pandemic.
And Cameron revealed that a curry the night before the event - not part of a normal training diet - propelled him to a blistering 15 mins 08 secs.
Sophia swept to the women’s fastest time in 17mins 07 seconds.
The Moray Road Runners are both now training with elite triathlon coach Rob Bridges at Loughborough.
Cameron’s run was the seventh fastest men's parkrun on January 1, while Sophia was the fourth fastest woman across the UK at Parkrun events.
"I was pretty happy with that time, given the fact I had a curry the night before and was up later for the Bells. It was also pretty windy.
“We have done Parkrun a few times across the country and in Elgin. It is a great format and I like the course in Elgin,” said Cameron.
“It is also a great way of meeting people and we enjoyed saying hello to folk and wishing them a happy new year.”
The ultimate goal for the pair is Scottish team selection for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this year.
