Carlton face Sappers at Mosset Park

WITH the title in the hands of Nairn side Westerlea, focus in the Forres and Nairn District Welfare league is turning to this Friday’s McIntosh Rosebowl cup final clash between the Kinloss Sappers and the Carlton.

The final will take place at Mosset Park, the home of Forres Mechanics, at 7pm.

Both finalists were in action on Monday night as preparations continued for the final.

The Carlton were beaten 6-3 in Elgin by FC Elgin, while the Sappers hammered Elgin Thistle 5-0 in a clash which could help define who finishes second in the league.

Sappers, who have finished their league campaign, are now second, with Thistle three points behind with two games remaining. Thistle will need four points to secure second, given the fact their goal difference is 17 worse.

Last Monday, September 2, Kinloss Sappers also thrashed FC Elgin 8-0.

On Friday, Westerlea ensured they went the whole league season undefeated – winning 15 of the their 18 games – as they drew 3-3 with the Carlton and were presented with their league title by league sponsors Harry Fairbairn BMW.

Later on Friday, the Sappers FC beat Mosset Tavern 5-2 – ending the Mosset’s chances of a second place finish.

In the battle of the bottom boys in the league, Nairn United avoided a potential last place finish by beating Red Lion FC 6-1.

The Red Lion, who have one point to their name this campaign, will complete their season tomorrow when they face Elgin Thistle at Roysvale. Kick-off is 6:15pm.

And then it’s the big one as Carlton face Kinloss Sappers at Mosset Park in the final of the McIntosh Rosebowl cup final on Friday.

Entry to the match is free and kick-off is 7pm, with the bar at the stadium open from 7.30pm.

The season’s last match is Carlton vs Elgin Thistle, to finally decide second place.
