Division 2 was the sole source of action in this week’s Moray Province curling programme and it was a good week for Fochabers Curling Club as teams Duncan and Durno successfully contested their league challenge.

In the continued absence of skip Abby Duncan, Gordon Fraser again earned his corn in a high scoring 13-9 win over Mike MacDonald.

Ably supported by Tony Duncan, Wilson Burnett and Bill Ross, this Fochabers quartet spend more time on the ice than hungry polar bears and were always ahead against their Forres opponents.

Although the eight ends were evenly shared, a trio of threes and a four proved to be a stronger hand than McDonald’s pair of threes, a two and a single.

Club colleague Alan Durno chalked up a convincing victory over Bob Stewart, scoring at each of the first five ends to race to an 11-shot advantage before Stewart’s Elgin team were able to trouble the scoreboard. The final 12-3 score reflected a tough night for the Elgin outfit.

Willie Cameron was another absent skip as Jim Gault again steered his Aberlour team to a hard fought peel with Charlie Watt jnr.

In a highly entertaining match, the Forresians were just a tick ahead of their opponents for the majority of the contest and lead 5-3 after five ends before a single and then a single steal gave the Aberlour trio a point in an honourable 5-5 draw.

Duncan now tops the Division with a 100 per cent record closely followed by Durno two points adrift.
