North junior football: Lossiemouth United's fine win at Banks O' Dee puts Islavale top of Championship after battling victory at Forres Thistle

Islavale climbed to the top of north junior football's Championship on Saturday - thanks to a favour from a Moray rival.

The Keith side made it 13 wins in a row despite playing with ten men for an hour at Forres Thistle, wninng 1-0 thanks to a late Finlay Milton goal.

Vale's Saturday got even better when news filtered through of Lossie's victory at Dee by the same scoreline, a result which put the Keith side on top of the table for the first time this season.

United played superbly on the Spain Park astroturf and were unlucky not to go in front when Ross Archibald hit the post from a tight angle and Scott Dunn squandered a one-on-one opportunity.

Arran Anderson in the United goal pulled off a fine save from a powerful Dee shot before half time.

Lossie pressed hard in the second half, believing they could get a result against the leaders.

They duly took the lead when the referee played advantage following a home foul and Ally Bellingham's through pass released Dunn to fire through the keepers' legs.

A combination of good defending and goalkeeping saw Lossie United to victory.

Islavale have clawed back an eight-point deficit to go top, though they had to dig deep at Forres.

Missing key players like James Stables, Robert Scott and Noel Scott from their line-up, the Keith side travelled to Logie Park for a tough match against a Jags side sitting fourth in the table.

Their task was made all the more difficult when Matty Nicol was shown a straight red card after just half an hour.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Vale stepped up their game and created several good chances. Top scorer Brodie Christie was clean through on goal but fired at the keeper.

The game was heading for 0-0 when youngster Milton was played through to score with five minutes to go.

New Elgin made it six wins in a row, with Lossiemouth loanee Dean Stewart again on target in the victory over Hall Russell United.

The Free Staters have won every match since Stewart returned to the club on loan, and he has scored in all but one of the m,atches he has played.

His 27th minute strike opened the scoring at Nicol-Togneri Park on Saturday, quickly followed by an Aidan Mackay strike to make it 2-0.

The Aberdeen visitors pulled one back right at the end but couldn't deny their hosts victory.

Burghead Thistle returned to winning ways with a 3-1 success at Longside.

Kelvin Mackenzie provided an assist and two goals for Broch, putting in a corner for Caiol Provan to head in the early opener.

Mackenzie scored the second from the penalty spot after Finlay Nicol was fouled, and he made it three just before the hour.

Dufftown had their shooting boots on with Kris Duncan netting four times in a 6-0 success over bottom club Cruden Bay.

Aaron Cruickshank and Shaun Cameron also netted for the Toonsers.

There was a dramatic finish to Deveronside's clash at home to Banchory St Ternan.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead before Owen Christie's penalty pulled one back.

Banchory got a third right on half time but an own goal early in the second half pulled it back to 3-2.

Christie netted his second penalty of the afternoon to make it 3-3 on 86 minutes.

Banchory then netted a fourth on 90 minutes but there was still time for Ryan Matheson to rescue a vital point for 'Side deep into time added on.
