A Kickboxing tournament is being held at RAF Kinloss later this month to raise funds for two charities.
The Help for Heroes and Breast Cancer Care Scotland charities are set to benefit from the special event being co-organised by an MoD civil servant from the base.
The ‘North of Scotland Open’, which has the backing of the World Karate Association, will include competitions for men, women, and children, along with a team competition.
Weigh in and registration will start at 9.30 am in the RAF Kinloss Gymnasium on Sunday, March 18.
Tony Carroll, who is a MOD civil servant at the Moray base, is one of the event organisers. He also helped organise a similar event last year, which was a big success, raising more than £4,000 for charity.
“After the success of last year’s competition we thought we’d get one last chance to raise money for two really worthwhile charities,” he said.
He said they have once again put out invites to all the clubs in the local area and throughout the UK, as well as to the RAF Martial Arts Association.
Tony’s 13-year-old daughter, Tara will be taking part in the competition. Already a Scottish champion, Tara has been kickboxing for 6½ years and is a member of the Kaizen Club, in Elgin, which is also supporting the event.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to do just as well if not better this year,” said Tony. “We have had great support from our backers and I would like to thank Frank Hogg, CM Design, Sheriffmill, McAllister Groundworks and the RAF Lossiemouth Day Care Centre.’
Anyone who would like to take part can contact Tony on 07786 160280 or co-organiser, Linda Henderson on 07795 681668.
