THE FINAL Junior Forres Harriers training session at Roysvale Park, before the move to Grant Park for the summer, culminated with trophies being awarded to a boy and girl from the club.

Nominations for these awards came from all of the coaches involved in the Junior Harriers training sessions.

It was a difficult final decision as there was such a wealth of talent to choose from. All of the children who have been attending over the winter months, have shown a great deal of determination, tenacity and enthusiasm. Picking just one boy and girl from this group proved extremely difficult with much discussion between coaches as to the eventual winners. Ultimately, it had been decided that the trophies should go to the boy and girl who had shown the most dedication, determination, good behaviour and running improvement over the winter months. The final winners were agreed as Oliver Watson and Lily Carmichael who have both worked extremely hard and turned up consistently for the Thursday evening coaching sessions to run during all weathers and have remained cheerful and are an inspiration to the other children throughout the training sessions! Indeed, all of the Junior Harriers have trained diligently and the coaches agreed it gave them great pride to see the improvements they had made during the past few months. These trophies will be awarded twice yearly.

Many of the junior harriers have competed throughout the winter in the North District cross-country races, travelling as far away as Dornoch and Thurso. The most recent running event was the Moray Primary Schools Cross Country where children from all over Moray gathered on a cold but sunny morning at Buckie High School’s playing field. Nearly 800 children completed in the P4/5 and P6/7 events. All of the Forres Harriers juniors ran exceptionally well proving that training on a Thursday night really can improve your running.

The Junior Harriers train every Thursday evening for an hour at 6.30pm and is open to all abilities. Training will re-commence after the Easter holidays at Grant Park and all children over the age of 8 are welcome. There is a strict code of conduct, all of the coaches are fully qualified and children can come and participate in a fun and safe environment. We look forward to seeing some new faces in the summer.
