Forres Thistle were the big winners on a football weekend decimated by the weather.

Jags' North region Junior Championship clash with Whitehills was one of the few matches to survive the rain, and there was a downpour of goals for the home side.

Thistle struck ten times without reply against their struggling Banffshire visitors.

Jamie Souter struck early on and Cammy Grant went on to score four times including two penalty kicks, one which was saved before he scored the rebound.

Top scorer Neil Moir netted Forres' third penalty of the game late on after Toby Clark (2), Matty Milne and Ricky Wardrop had added to the growing tally.

New Elgin suffered late heartache in their Championship match at Glentanar.

They led in Aberdeen at the break through Michael Payne's second goal of the season.

However, New Elgin were reduced to ten men early in the second half when Robert Forsyth was sent off.

Glentanar levelled on 61 minutes through Murray Nicol and with the game heading for a draw, Dylan Henderson struck right at the death for the home side to nick a 2-1 win.

In the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup, Rothie Rovers were 1-0 winners in Inverurie against fellow Premier League side Colony Park.

Keith Walker's low drive nine minutes from time put the Rothienorman side into the next round.

Islavale's Quest Engineering Cup tie at home to Longside was off along with Burghead Thistle's Championship match at Banchory and the Moray derby between Dufftown and Lossiemouth United.
