A brand new competition arrived on this year's north snooker calendar.

The Moray Snooker Team Cup attracted two teams from Forres Royal British Legion, two from Elgin's New Club and one each from 147 Club in Inverness and Elgin Ex-Service Club.

It was a straight knockout event with two first round matches and two teams receiving a bye to the semi-finals.

The New Club 1 open up with a confident 8-4 win over Forres Legion 1.

Elgin Ex Service enjoyed a comfortable 9-3 home win to beat The New Club 2.

These teams progressed to the semi-finals where they would meet The 147 Club and Forres Legion 2 respectively.

The first semi-final was an extremely close affair as The New Club 1 had to dig very deep to see out a 7-5 win.

The second semi final was not quite as close and James McKenzie (Forres Legion 2) had his potting boots on as he made 47, 40 and 33 breaks in the frames he contested to enable his side to progress.

The final was a scrappy and tactical affair played out by The New Club 1 and Forres Legion 2 and hosted by the Elgin Ex Service Club.

It was the Elgin side that prevailed 7-3 but the frames were so close this could easily have ended in a tied match with so many frames being decided on the pink or black ball.
