Harriers host hardy runners in league showdown

FORRES Harriers hosted the fourth race of the Run4It North District Cross Country League, at Grant Park.

The picture-perfect winter scene greeted hardy cross country runners from all over the north and Highlands of Scotland.

The under-11 girls got the races underway. First Harrier to finish was Faith Kenyan in 15th position following her first outing for the harriers. She was closely followed by Roslyn McRitchie 16th and Talia Pearson 18th. This was also Talia’s first cross country race for the team. The girls finish as 4th team overall.

The under-11 boys were next. Rob Bichan finished 6th, Scott Perry 8th and, with David Spencer finishing 9th, the boys finished 3rd team. Also running in their

first cross country races for the Harriers were Bruce Evans (13th) and Jack Miller (21st).

Under-13 girls Lily Carmichael finished 7th, Shauna Perry 9th, Emma Donald 13th and Jennifer Spencer 24th. They took 2nd team place.

Harrier Ben Cameron dominated the under-13 boys race and moved closer to the overall league title. With Oliver Watson finishing 5th and David Scott 14th, the boys also managed to seal 2nd team.

Lauren Cameron finished 7th and Jenny Mitchell 11th in the under-15 girls race. Harrier Anna MacFadyen, emerged victor in a very competitive under-17 women’s race.

In the Senior Ladies race, Harrier Moira Davie finished over a minute ahead of her nearest rival to move closer to another league win. With the support of Kirstie Rogan (6th) and Hilary Cameron (9th), the ladies managed to snatch a team win away from Inverness Harriers. Also running were Susan McRitchie (12th), Elizabeth Watson (19th), Ros Wright (22nd), Clare Nicholas (29th), Jackie Nicol (32nd), Frances Russell (34th) and Shona Spencer (39th).

Harrier Kyle Grieg pushed hard for a win on home soil in the senior men’s race, but was unable to outrun Inverness Harrier John Newsome. Kyle still remains in contention for the league title with two races still to come. With Gordon Lennox 3rd,Robbie Patterson 6th and Wayne Dashper 10th, the men finished first team. Also running were Kevin Schenk (12th), Dave Weir (22nd), Colin Hall (38th), Lindsay Grant (46th), Gary MacFadyen (51st), Ross McLeod (56th), Steve

Hayward (57th), Jamie Watson (59th), Grant Symon (60th) and John Holloway (63rd).

The next league race will be hosted by Ross County Athletics Club at Evanton on Saturday, with the last league race on the February 14 in Nairn.

For those keen on road running; on Sunday, February 8, Moray Road Runners host the Kinloss to Lossiemouth Half Marathon.
