FORRES HARRIERS were well represented at the Scottish Inter District Cross Country Championships, held at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, on Saturday, when nine runners from the club took part.
Winner of the men’s international three kilometre race was Kenyan Asbel Kiprop, beating the favoured Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele, who finished 11th, but it was the performance of Mark Mitchell which had the Forres runners on the edge of their seats.
At one point in the race, Mitchell overtook Bekele, a double Olympic 5,000 and 10,000 metre champion, but had to settle for 13th place. Also taking part was the Olympic 3,000 metre steeplechase champion, Brimin Kipruto.
Enjoying the experience of running in a major event were junior girls Anna McFadyen (left), who came 30th in the under-13 girls race; Lucy Massie and Zoe Hayward, who finished 18th and 22nd respectively in the under-15 event.
Other senior Harriers running were Moira Davie in the women’s race and, in the men’s race, Kyle Greig, Robbie Paterson, Gordon Lennox and Paul Rogan.
