FORRES Thistle battled to a 1-0 victory over Longside at Logie Park on Saturday in a game that saw three players dismissed, including both goalkeepers.
The two sides started the day locked on 17 points, but the Jags ended it five spots ahead of their visitors – such is the compact nature of the North Region Championship.
The sole goal of the match was scored just a minute before half-time when Brandon Hutcheson nodded Neil Moir’s corner in from six yards.
Just after the hour-mark the Longside keeper Cameron Fraser fouled Matty Fraser in the right-back area, for which he was shown a red card, deemed somewhat harsh by most onlookers.
Just three minutes later, Thistle were also reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Dan Mcleod was shown a straight red.
Matthew Milne passed the ball back to the keeper, but only succeeded in playing Longside’s Harry Copeman through on goal – forcing Mcleod to foul him. Milne himself then went in goals.
With 15 minutes to go, Longside were reduced to nine when Nathan Stuart was shown his second yellow.
The Jags moved up to seventh in the table with the victory, with 20 points from 13 league matches.
Forres Thistle are at home to Stonehaven in the next round of the Quest Engineering Cup on Saturday.
