FORRES Thistle kept up their promotion push with an impressive 3-1 victory over second place Fraserburgh United.

The top four from the North Region Junior Championship will get promoted to the Premier League, with the Jags currently sitting in fourth place, with four games to play.

The first chance at Logie Park on Saturday went the way of Forres, with Sam Noble’s effort from 22 yards saved and gathered at the second attempt by visiting keeper Blair Tait.

The Jags took the lead on the half-hour mark when a terrific volley from Brandon Hutcheson found the top corner from 20 yards.

Just eight minutes later and it was 2-0. Neil Moir sent a 22-yard free-kick into the far top corner – another tremendous strike and a two-goal half-time lead for Thistle.

Eight minutes into the second half and it was 3-0 Forres. Matthew Fraser got in down the right and sent a cross across the six-yard box that Moir knocked in at the back post to put the game out of the visitors’ reach.

Fraserburgh did claw one back on 65 minutes, though, when Liam Strachan’s corner went all the way in after a misjudgement from Forres keeper Dan Mcleod.

Jags almost restored their three-goal lead after Moir and Toby Clark combined to set up Hutcheson, but Tait denied him well.

Straight up the other end, Strachan almost pulled another back – but shot a foot past the post with what was the last noteworthy opportunity of the match.

Another promotion-chasing side will visit Logie Park on Saturday, with third place Newmachar United, who are four points above Forres with two games in hand, the visitors. Kick-off is 2pm.
