FORRES Thistle were defeated 1-0 by local rivals New Elgin at Logie Park on Wednesday night.
Bodhi Tewnion's goal seven minutes from half-time was enough to give the visitors their first win of the league season.
The first chance went the way of New Elgin on eight minutes, with Dan Mcleod denying Aiden Mackay one-on-one after a poor pass back from Matthew Milne.
The Jags had their first chance minutes later when Forres Mechanics loanee laid the ball across goal for Neil Moir, whose shot was saved by visiting keeper Rian Wilson.
New Elgin took the lead on 38 minutes when Mcleod spilled a corner and Tewnion prodded the loose ball from inside the six-yard box.
The final chance of the first period when to Forres as Jack McKay was denied by Wilson before the recently returned Ricky Wardrop fired over the crossbar.
Into the second period and Thistle struggled to create clear openings, while there were a series of half chances for New Elgin.
The final chance came on 87 minutes when Moir's free-kick was fired straight across the six-yard box with nobody there to apply the finishing touch.
Thistle have a weekend off, with their next match in the Scottish Junior Cup against Letham – from Perth – at Logie Park on September 2.
