Ben Barron (18) joined Forres last summer and signed a contract extension just a few weeks ago. That didn't, however, stop City from getting their man.

Barron has already joined up with his new team mates for training – and Dylan Lawrence, who broke into Elgin's first team last campaign making 24 appearances in League Two, has trained with Forres.

The 20-year-old winger will move to Mosset Park until at least January as part of the deal, with City boss Ross Draper hoping he can gain experience before fighting for his first team place at Borough Briggs.

Lawrence joins striker Calum Frame (17) in moving to Mechanics, along with an unnamed defender who could feature in Saturday's clash against Strathspey Thistle.

Forres manager Steven MacDonald wished Ben Barron all the best at Elgin City and welcomed his new recruits to the club.

"It's bitter-sweet," MacDonald said. "I'm really pleased for Ben. "He has been like a model pro and is what other young boys aspire to be like. He's been fantastic and I'm excited to see how he does at SPFL level.

"Calum is where Ben was last season. We are delighted to get him in.

“We are really grateful to Gordon Duff, head of the youth academy at Ross County, who gave us the heads up that Calum was going to be released.

“He told us he had a knack of scoring goals and was unfortunate to be getting released.

“From there we had a look at him in training and he did well against a physical Pollok side and scored twice against Fraserburgh United.

“You look at Calum and think he’s not fully developed for men’s football but he is deceptive and clever in how he puts his body about. He’s tall and lean but he’s quick. I think he’ll surprise people.

“I’m delighted to get Dylan, too. I’ve been trying to get him for the last couple of seasons.

“Ross (Draper) really likes him but wants him to get more experience with us and go back and fight for his first team place.”

Elgin's summer business isn't finished, with the Black and Whites continuing to pursue a deal for Ross County forward Matthew Wright, who spent last season on loan with Montrose.
