A proposal to create a new fifth tier in the SPFL including four Premiership B teams, along with Highland and Lowland League sides, has been met with widespread concern.

The new league would offer possible promotion to League 2 for the highest-placed non-B team via a play-off.

Highland League clubs were initially stopped by their own league from discussing the new proposals but several sides including Forres have since spoken out via social media channels.

Mechanics issues a statement last night which read: "Having listened to our supporters, sponsors and the board we as a club have confirmed we can not support the SFA proposal as it stands.

"At the LMC meeting this evening we were reminded that the SHFL does not get a vote on this matter at the SFA AGM but all member clubs will individually get a vote, so it is therefore the right of each club to vote as they see fit."
