The Cans had failed to win in ten league matches since August, a run which had taken them down the table to 13th place.

But one club they are more than capable of defeating is Strathspey, who they had already beaten twice this season.

On-loan Caley Thistle striker Ethan Cairns gave Mechanics a 33rd minute lead and Shaun Morrison made it two in first half stoppage time.

A blank second half suited Steven MacDonald's side as they returned home from Grantown with all three points.

In the other scheduled 2pm match, Buckie Thistle's home game against Clach was called off just half an hour before kick off.

The match officials were unhappy with a waterlogged section of the Victoria Park pitch and pulled the plug on the contest.
