Forres martial arts club DKMA claim 42 medals at the EMTF (European Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation) Open British Championships in Newcastle
A martial arts head coach has expressed her pride after her club secured a haul of 42 medals at a British championship event.
Sixteen members of the DKMA (Dominique’s Karate Martial Arts) in Forres made the trip to Newcastle for the EMTF (European Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation) Open.
The Moray group took home 14 gold medals along with 16 silver and 12 bronze.
Head coach Dominique Sutherland said the achievement came down to the hard work and training put in by the athletes, as well as the expertise of their coaches.
Star DKMA performer was Myles Wilson who secured victory in his seven divisions and claimed the junior blackbelt grand champion prize. He was the only Scottish competitor in the whole event to achieve this feat.
After the club’s achievements, Master Dominique heaped praise on those who competed in England.
"I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our athletes,” she said. “Their hard work, discipline, and commitment have once again been rewarded with outstanding results.
“This success is testament to their talent and the supportive community we have at DKMA.
“(The tournament) provided DKMA with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on a competitive stage, and they did not disappoint.
“With their impressive medal haul and standout performances, DKMA has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of martial arts and at their upcoming European Championships in Germany later this year.”
