The league event, sponsored by Ian Mackenzie Joinery, reverted to a new format and has provided some great games so far.

Following the league's annual general meeting, the championships made a switch to weekly fixtures with four-man teams, resulting in some extremely close and exciting affairs.

Forres Legion 2 have taken up top spot at the halfway point of the season, closely followed by reigning champions The New Club 1, with the Elgin team having a game in hand to try and make up the two-point gap.

The chasing pack of The 147 Club, Elgin Ex Service and The New Club 2 remain well within touching distance.

Stephen Hepburn (Forres Legion 2) leads the player stats with 13 out of 15 frames won whilst Gary Pope (Elgin Ex Service) has the high break so far with 58.

Moray Snooker Team Championships table:

Forres Legion 2: played 5, points 8, frame difference +16

The New Club 1: played 4, points 8, frame difference +8

The 147 Club: played 5, points 5, frame difference +4

The New Club 2: played 4, points 5, frame difference -6

Elgin Ex Service: played 5, points 4, frame difference +2

Forres Legion 1: played 5, points 0, frame difference +24

Two new competitions have also come to the table this season.

The Moray Snooker Team Cup was contested by all six league teams and after a series of fine games, league front runners Forres Legion 2 and New Club 1 have reached the final to be played in the new year.

The Moray Snooker 6 Red Open has also been introduced to the calendar with the group stages only just completed.

The final eight qualifiers will battle it out at Elgin Ex Service Club on January 9.
