Forres ladies make golfing hay while the sun shines

FORRES Golf Club – Ladies Section – Club Championship -1st Round CSS

(71) – Forty-two ladies took part on a glorious golfing day resulting in 7 ladies reducing their handicaps.

Gross Scores – Mhairi Donald 79; Karen Smith 80; Janet Buist 82.

Net Scores – Catherine Urquhart (27) 66; Ellen Garrow (31), Linda Wheeler (16) 67.

A group of 24 ladies competed in a Stableford competition held on a glorious day, the CSS being 71.

Silver Division – Louise Hampton (12) 36; Janet Buist (12), Doreen McCaig (20), Joan Cooper (17) 34.

Bronze Division – Fiona Grant (23), Susan Proctor (21) 35; Helen Innes (28) 34.

SENIORS – On June 6, a group of 37 Wednesday Seniors played for the Dave Christie Putter, a stroke play event for all handicaps. Despite the continual rain throughout the tournament, some excellent scores were achieved. The winner was Gordon Laing (15) with a net score of 63; in second place was last year’s winner Ian Hampton(12), who put up a stout defence of his title with a net score of 66.

Divisional results – Div I: Gordon Laing(15) 63, Ian Hampton(12) 66.

Div II: Brian Thomas(16) 69, Vince Dobby(17) 70.

Div III: Ian Cameron(22) 73(BIH), John MacRae(27) 73.

Meanwhile, a Hickory Golf 2-Ball Scramble was played at Forres over the weekend.

All competitors played with clubs that were up to 100 years old, such as Spoons, Niblicks and Mashies.

Organiser Sandy Aird said that some of the scores were amazing.

The overall winners were Gregor Miller and Jake Carpenter who scored 60.5 and the senior winners were Brian and Stu Thomas with 62.5.

“It was a great experience for all participants and we may hold it again in another 100 years,” said Mr Aird.
