The young Moray gymnasts took part in a friendly competition hosted by Inverurie Gymnastics Club, and also attended by youngsters from Balmoor Gymnastics Club in Peterhead.

Forres head coach Patsy Fraser-Mackenzie said it was a great day for her small club, with numerous gold medal successes to celebrate.

She was also grateful to Tesco for a £1000 cash pledge to support the club’s travel to events across the north and beyond.

For the Inverurie competition, Beth Watson was the star of the 6/7 beginners age group as she swept the boards on the medal front, taking gold on the floor, vault and overall contest.

Forres team-mates Nevaeh Kingham and Charlotte Anderson-Brown won silver on the vault, and the three medallists were joined by Ava Main in claiming gold for their club in the team event.

Perrie Mckail matched Beth’s dominant performance in the 8/9 beginners as she also won floor, vault and overall gold medals as well as teaming up with Aria Agar, Lucy Hays and Maggie Walters to win the team event.

Each team member had medal success, with Aria taking gold on the floor and silver overall. Maggie won bronze for her floor performance, gold on the vault and bronze overall while Lucy won bronze on the floor.

Harper Derrick took bronze in the 10/11 beginners vault and overall competitions.

The club enjoyed great success in the 12/13 years intermediates event.

Mya Morrison took gold on the floor and overall and was denied a clean sweep when team-mate Louisa Walters won the vault and pipped Mya into the silver position.

Louisa also claimed silver overall, Matilda Gee was third overall and won silver on the floor and bronze on the vault. The Forres trio also claimed the team gold medal.

Lucy Stephenson was the top performer in the 14+ advanced section, securing gold medals in floor, vault and overall with a stunning display.

The club has one more competition before stopping for a well-earned rest, and coach Patsy Fraser-Mackenzie spoke about the financial windfall which helps all her gymnasts compete further afield.

“The Tesco donation of £1000 was to help the club attend competitions all over Scotland and is hugely appreciated by everyone at Forres Gymnastics Club,” she said.

“We are very grateful to Tesco at Forres and to all who donated their tokens to the club.”
