The 12-year-old took part in her first British Cycling National Circuit Race Series event at Fife Cycle Park on Saturday and Sunday, competing in four races.

The Spokes RTM Mid Summer Dash event was of the highest quality, with all Ava's races being won by Deeside Thistle Cycling Club's Melanie Rowe, daughter of Olympian Sarah Rowe (then Phillips).

Ava was tenth in the overall B Girls event having raced over two Saturday and two Sunday stages over varying distances, including an individual time trial.

A club spokesperson said: "The wind was a constant factor but over the weekend the cyclists experienced all four seasons.

"Ava performed to her own high expectations and as one of the youngest there, relished the opportunity to compete against cyclists from all over the UK."

The youngster only competed in her first open road event two months earlier, and achieved two top five finishes in her first two Scottish National Youth Circuit Series events this year.
