Soccer Seven's have organised an adult tournament for next Saturday.

Just a week before Mechanics glamour Scottish Cup tie with Rangers, supporters of all ages and abilities will meet at Grant Park on Saturday, September 22, to take part in the annual Forres Soccer Sevens Adult Tournament.

"It’s always an enjoyable day that gives everyone the opportunity to play football, including the older family members of children who play in the leagues," said Soccer Sevens chairperson Graeme Ferguson. "The kids like to watch their parents, brothers and sisters playing football too."

Rangers will be just one of many quality football teams to have challenged the local talent. In it’s six year history, squads from Ross County FC, Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and Strathclyde University have taken on pub teams and groups of friends on the day ... and lost.

"We’ve had teams from Glasgow up, and regularly attract squads from throughout the North," said Mr Ferguson."The largest number of entries we had was 16.

"We do ask that teams register beforehand, but there are always extra on the day who must be accommodated."

On the morning of the event the teams are drawn from a hat and placed in leagues. The top two teams from each league progress to the knockout stages.

There is also a wooden spoon competition for the lower placed squads and the final is played in the late afternoon. Every game has a referee and is played on the fully-marked seven-a-side pitches.

The entry fee is £100 per team for a squad of up to ten players. Food and drink is available throughout the day.

"Forres Soccer Sevens is a nominal organisation so we are grateful to local businesses for donating the prizes and sponsoring the event," said Mr Ferguson. "Any money made from the registration fee is reinvested into the club for the benefit of the kids here."
