The Fochabers cue star defeated Mosstodloch rival Gary Pope in the final, held at Forres British Legion.

A total of 32 players from across the north battled to secure the singles shield, with each round being contested over a number of weeks leading to finals day last week.

The competition is for all players registered to play for a team in the Moray Snooker Team Championships or reside in the Moray area.

First round ties of note included tight wins for Alex Cooper (Inverness) over Ali McDonald (Elgin) and for Stephen Hepburn (Nairn) over Michael McCulloch (Inverness) both finishing with 4-3 scorelines.

The highlight of the round was a 90 break compiled by Cooper in his success over McDonald.

The last 16 saw Sean Riach (Inverness) start to motor as he defeated William Ross (Kinloss) 4-1, whilst there were comfortable 4-0 wins for MacLeod over Neil Stirling (Huntly) and for Pope against Roy Muckart (Inverness).

The bigger breaks started to flow in the quarter-finals as Riach notched up a 51 in his win over Ally Mooney (Inverness).

He was joined in the semi-finals by Pope who defeated Hepburn in a surprisingly one-sided encounter whilst Cooper and MacLeod would contest the other semi-final.

Pope was handed a free route to the final when Riach was forced to pull out of the competition before the semi-finals.

In contrasting fashion, MacLeod had to dig deep for his passage to the final in a topsy-turvy match against Cooper which went to a deciding frame, the Mosstodloch man squeezing through 4-3.

The final started nicely with MacLeod compiling a nice 31 break en route to taking the first frame.

Pope levelled things up, helped by an excellent 50 break which was matched by MacLeod in the next frame to edge him back in front.

MacLeod kept Pope at bay in the rest of the match to win 4-1 and retain his singles title, his third success overall.
