Forres Mechanics have confirmed that they will host Rangers on Saturday September 29th as the Highland League champions welcome the former SPL giants in what is undoubtedly the tie of the second round.

The decision follows a meeting held last night. Local councilor and lifelong Cans fan Aaron McLean said he was delighted for the town.

"It is excellent news that the game is going ahead at Mmosset Park," he said. "Hopefully we can give them a real good game and the Cans can get a good crowd to cheer them on."

Manager Charlie Rowley had no doubt that this was the right decision and told ‘Gazette’ correspondent Steve Rattray he was thrilled.

"I am absolutely delighted," he said. "We have got what we wanted. If we have any aspirations of taking anything out of the game we 100% had to have the tie at Mosset Park."

Charlie Rowley said: "The wide open spaces and the big pitch at Caley combined with the fact that they are surroundings that Rangers would have been far more used to would have given them a massive advantage.

"Our players are comfortable at Mosset Park and the tight area with a big crowd providing a real atmosphere will give us a slightly better chance of getting something out of the game.

"This is not only going to be a piece of history for Forres Mechanics but hopefully we can make it a part of the history of Scottish Football."

He said a big tie on a Highland League ground is what the Scottish Cup is all about in his opinion.
