But Brechin City have three games in hand and the stronger goal difference following their 10-0 thrashing of Wick Academy.

Buckie manager Graeme Stewart still believes his team will claim the title if they win all of their last four fixtures - including the vital home clash with Brechin on the final day.

"I would take a 1-0 win in every game from now to the end of the season," said Stewart.

He reflected on a plethora of missed chances by his team despite winning 3-0 over Nairn.

Josh Peters edged Buckie in front with Andy MacAskill seeing a first half penalty saved.

It needed late counters by Joe McCabe and sub Kyle MacLeod to emphasise the home team's superiority but Stewart feels his men should have been more clinical.

"We really should have had at least five or six, easily," he added. "We missed the pen and three one-on-one chances, we hit the post and the bar, there was one off the line and their goalkeeper was outstanding."

Brechin's 10-0 victory means they have opened up a seven-goal lead on goal difference over Buckie, should they wipe out the six-point gap with their games in hand.

However the Glebe Park side still have to play champions Fraserburgh twice as well as a home clash with Brora Rangers and that crucial trip to Buckie, all in their remaining seven fixtures.

If Brechin could win all six matches before their visit to Jags, they would have a three point lead as well as the likelihood of a massive goals advantage.

However, Stewart feels there are more twists and turns to come in the title chase, and isn't sure it will come down to goal difference.

"Depending on how things work out, it could end up being important but we can only concentrate on winning our games.

"If I'm being honest, if we do that then I think we should win the league."

Grady McGrath scored five of Brechin's ten-goals against a makeshift Wick side and also missed a penalty.

Marc Scott and Kieran Inglis netted doubles with Ewan Loudon also scoring, and the Tayside outfit face a tough trip to Fraserburgh on Wednesday night.

Fraserburgh defeated Lossiemouth 3-0 on Friday night thanks to goals by Logan Watt, Sean Butcher and Ryan Sargent.

Forres Mechanics finally ended a ten-game run without victory in some style, thumping hosts Keith 6-2.

Banks O' Dee edged out Brora Rangers in a seven-goal thriller with Cattachs front man Jordan MacRae scoring a hat-trick but ending up on the losing side.

Goals by Jonny Smith, Sam Robertson and Nathan Meres earned Inverurie Locos a 3-1 win over Turriff United, who had levelled through Reece McKeown.

Rothes' game against Huntly was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
