LIVE boxing returns to Forres on Saturday night at the Victoria Hotel.

Lochside Amateur Boxing Club have organised the event to raise funds for Forres Mechanics, strengthening existing links between the two sports clubs.

"We are always looking for ways to raise money and we have not held an event of this kind before," said Can’s chairman Dr James Anderson. "We have a special interest in Lochside ABC through Chucky (Macpherson) and Matty (Davidson) who won medals for the club before playing for us. The event will be a great evening’s entertainment."

Evenly-matched boxers from throughout Scotland aged between 12 and 25, weighing between 40 and 90kg, will compete over ten bouts. There will be three rounds in each fight lasting two minutes for juniors and three minutes for seniors. All fights will be officiated and scored by representatives of the Scottish Amateur Boxing Association using AIBA rules.

"Boxing is a great sport involving a lot of dedication and it gets a lot of boys off the street," said former Scottish Junior Champion and current Mechanics midfielder Chucky Macpherson. "If there are any cancellations on the night I would love to do a boxing exhibition in the great atmosphere at the Vic’. I’ve been training with Lochside again to help get the boys fit for the show and was surprised that I am still sharp."

As well as the main event there will also be an auction of a Forres Mechanics Highland League Champions ball and shirt signed by the squad, and some souvenir championship bottles of whisky.

Tickets are still available from Lochside ABC secretary Dutch Holland or any Forres Mechanics committee members.
