STRIKER Ryan Green has confirmed that he is set to put pen to paper on a new one-year deal at the Mechanics, with the announcement being made at his testimonial dinner at the Mosset Tavern on Friday night.

The 36-year-old forward has underlined his commitment to the club by signing on for his 11th season despite the competition for a striking berth being fiercer than ever with Lee Fraser, Ross Archibald and Scott Lawrie already on board.

“There have been offers from other clubs and it has been both tempting and flattering, but when Charlie Rowley confirmed that the club were keen to keep me on board for another season I was delighted.

“I feel that I still have plenty to offer the club and while I want to be starting games and believe that I can do that I am also prepared to be a player who comes off the bench for the last 20 minutes to try and make an impact on the game.”

Green was gagged by the rules and regulations that surround testimonial events, but he hopes he can say thanks to all those who have supported him over the past year when he pulls on his boots for the Mechanics next term.

“Due to the regulations that surround testimonials I couldn’t stand up and thank people but

it was a night to remember in so many ways and it is a night I will always be extremely grateful for.

The goal against Turriff United that was key to winning the league is clearly one that has gone into Mechanics’ folklore.

It was a special moment but hopefully there is the chance for me to do the

same again next May!”

Mechanics fans will get the chance to give their greatest rivals Elgin City a fiery reception this summer as the Black and Whites will head to Mosset Park for Green’s testimonial match on Friday, July 19.

Testimonial committee chairman Steven Rattray says that this is

a match that gives the Forres fans the chance to soak up some of the

passion of the old derby matches, while kickstarting their weekend

in style.

“The Mechanics fans always loved putting one over Elgin City and they

will get the chance to do that again this summer,”

Mr Rattray said.

“With the combination of paying tribute to big Ryan, kick-starting their weekend with some Friday night football in summer clobber and, of course, seeing the Can-Cans beat Elgin I am sure this is going to be a game that provides everything a Forres fan could hope for in a preseason clash."
