Banks O' Dee 4 Forres Mechanics 0: Cans fail to build on big point against Brechin City

FORRES Mechanics went into Saturday's clash with Banks O' Dee on a high after an impressive point against league leaders Brechin City, but were "lucky" to only lose 4-0 in Aberdeen.

That's according to assistant manager Stephen Maclean, who was pleased with his players' efforts against Brechin but disappointed as they failed to build on that showing.

"We were buzzing going into the game with Banks O' Dee having competed in the previous two matches," Maclean said.

"But we lost a poor goal from our point of view after four minutes and then they dictated the first half, without threatening too much.

"We got a bit impatient because we had been behind for so long and we were probably lucky to get away with it being four goals in the end."

Forres are back in Highland League action tomorrow when they welcome yet another top six side to Mosset Park.

The Can-Cans host Fraserburgh, who they led at half-time before losing 2-1 against when the sides last met.

"We are still going into it thinking we can cause an upset," Maclean said. "But we need to be more defensively sound and go back to he basics we did well against Brora and Brechin.

"The message is to stay in the game. Fraserburgh are on a good run of form and got a good result at Nairn.

"Our performances picked up starting with the Fraserburgh away game, when we defended well against a strong attack.

"We will be trying to tell them again that the run of performances started with Fraserburgh away so there is no reason we can't do that again."

Forres are set to be missing first-choice goalkeeper Lee Herbert and leader Lee Fraser for the remainder of March at the least.

Injuries are causing a headache for the management team at the minute – but are also giving a chance to give young boys minutes.

Youngsters Scot Docherty and Owen MacDonald got minutes at Banks O' Dee and are likely to be in contention again tonight.
