FORRES Golf Club’s Ladies Section held their opening match on Sunday, March 25.
The weather was glorious and a group of 44 ladies played in the captain versus vice-captain opening match.
The result between Mrs Carolyn Boyd and vice-captain Mrs Dorothy Marshall was a draw.
Then a further five ladies joined the group for the tea and traditional celebrations which followed and was enjoyed by everyone.
Last Saturday saw the Forres Golf Club Annual Captain versus Vice-Captain Opening Match.
The return of winter weather held off long enough for the capacity field to enjoy excellent sunny conditions and Club Captain Allan Martin drove off in style to officially launch the golfing season.
Partnered by Club Professional, Sandy Aird, he led his team against Vice-Captain Albert Duffus partnered by Club Champion Mark Jones.
All games started simultaneously with a traditional “Shot Gun” start in a good natured but fiercely competitive match.
the course looked magnificent in the sunshine and all competitors were treated to perfect golfing conditions which resulted in many matches finishing closely.
In the lead match, the Captain, faced with a daunting tee shot in front of a large gallery, drove off in spectacular fashion followed by his playing partners.
The game continued to be very close but, in true sporting tradition, the Vice-Captain allowed his Captain to win the game and overall match by 13 ½ games to 6 ½.
The match was preceded by the unveiling of a clock at the first tee in memory of past Club President Robin Thomson and presented to the Club by widow Christine and family. All competitors were treated to traditional post match light refreshments supplied by Club caterer Robert Schiach.
The competitive season starts for real with the April medal on Saturday, April 7, with the Woodroffe Cup being played on April 14.
